| Abstract: | Discusses new methods of achieving efficient milk ejection, stressing importance of habituation and training in triggering ejection. Reports result of experiment using three treatments: use of "kjevle" (implement restricting suckling on calves), physical periodic separation of mothers and calves, and permanent separation of females and calves at start of milking period. Finds that "kjevle" treatment is most effective, consistent with welfare and proportion of milk ejected. |
