Record #177682:
Review of oil spill effects of Arctic marine ecosystems / Johanna Ikävalko.
Title: | Review of oil spill effects of Arctic marine ecosystems / Johanna Ikävalko. |
Author(s): | Ikävalko, Johanna. |
Date: | 2005. |
In: | Meri. (2005.), Vol. 54 (2005) |
Abstract: | Review of earlier published literature related to oil effects on Arctic marine organisms, prepared for Arctic Operational Platform (ARCOP) research project. Notes that effects are variable, depending on several factors: species, life habit and development state of organism affected by oil, type of oil, time of exposition, and abiotic environmental factors (water temperature, presence of ice). Causes of oil spill may be locally very dramatic, and cause non-recoverable changes in ecosystem. |
Notes: | Meri. Vol. 54 :41-69 (2005). |
Keywords: | 001.89 -- Research programmes: Arctic Operational Platform (ARCOP). 502 -- Environmental issues. 504.05 -- Environmental damage. 504.054 -- Pollution. 665.6 -- Pollution, oil. 504.054(204) -- Pollution, water. 551.46 -- Oceanography, physical. 574.5 -- Marine and freshwater ecology. 574.583 -- Plankton. 597 -- Fish. 598.2 -- Birds. 599 -- Mammalia. 622.32 -- Petroleum, extraction.
