| Abstract: | Reports results of four-year oceanographic study to analyse chemical samples of water from Davis Strait with aim of determining concentration of tracers in Baffin Island Current (BIC). Finds that high concentrations of nutrients were found in deeper, low temperature part of BIC, but biological uptake removes evidence of elevated concentrations from Arctic source waters. Also finds that temperature, salinity, nutrient concentrations and nitrogen/phosphorus ratios in BIC clearly show that source water for flow is Pacific water layer in Arctic Ocean. |
