| Abstract: | Examines putative stock differences in white whales (Delphinapterus leucas) landed by hunters between 1992-1996 from south-ease Baffin Island communities of Kimmirut, Iqaluit and Pangnirtung. Combines results with previous study of molecular genetics of white whales which showed that whales hunted in three communities were significantly differentiated on basis of haplotype and/or microsatellite allele frequencies. Results of combined studies indicated that many whales were slightly more strongly associated with particular source hunting community than they were in component studies. |
