| Abstract: | Examines feeding of bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) taken by Alaska Natives at Barrow, Nuiqsut and Kaktovik between 1969-2000, with aim of identifying proportion of harvested whales that had been feeding, and describing diet (based on stomach contents). Findings indicate that, in autumn, bowhead whales feed regularly in eastern, central and western Alaskan Beaufort Sea and that feeding during spring migration is more common than previously thought. |
