| Abstract: | Reports project to reconstruct glacio-chemical time series over last millennium from ice core in north-east Greenland. Uses 1000-year ion chemistry records to reconstruct history of changes in atmospheric aerosol concentration. Observes long-term record of formic acid for first time in ice core from north-east Greenland and that this, together with ammonium, is present in singular concentration events over last 1000 years, particularly from 1200-1400. Suggests that concentration events are associated with large forest fires occurring in boreal zone. |
