Abstract: | Presents analysis of food and foraging strategy of 15 species of seabirds and sea mammals from two high Arctic fjords, Kongsfjord and Hornsund, Spitsbergen. Notes that prey species are more diverse in Atlantic-influenced waters of Kongsfjord than in Arctic-influenced waters of Hornsund. Finds that lower species diversity and biomass in Arctic waters is compensated by occurrence of larger individuals of these species, permitting top predators to prey directly on lower trophic levels. |
