Record #177454:
Possible effects of climate warming on selected populations of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in the Canadian Arctic / Ian Stirling, Claire L. Parkinson.
Title: | Possible effects of climate warming on selected populations of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in the Canadian Arctic / Ian Stirling, Claire L. Parkinson. |
Author(s): | Stirling, Ian. Parkinson, Claire L. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | Arctic. (2006.), Vol. 59(1) (2006) |
Abstract: | Discusses observations (including those from Inuit hunters) of polar bear (Ursus maritimus) population sizes, which have formed basis for increases in hunting quotas. Finds that observations conflict with long-term data which indicate population decline (correlating with evidence from passive-microwave satellite imagery that sea ice is breaking up at progressively earlier dates, with consequent effect on polar bear feeding behaviour). |
Notes: | Arctic. Vol. 59(1) :261-275 (2006). French abstract. |
