Translated title: Periglacial high mountain environments in the Posets massif (Aragonese Pyrennees).
Author(s): Sarrano, E.
Agudo, C.
González Trueba, J. J.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: Valladolid, Spain: Universidad de Valladolid. Departamento de Geografía
Language: Spanish.
In: Periglaciarismo en montaña y altas latitudes. (2002.),
Abstract: Massif is second highest in Pyrenees at 3369 m. Periglacial environment dominates above 2400 m, with processes including gelifraction, gelifluction, solifluxion, nivation and several rock glaciers. Paper presents geomorphological map, landform inventory, thermal ground regime and basal snow temperature (BTS) measurements. Identifies 14 different active periglacial landforms, with mountain permafrost above 2700 m-2875 m a.s.l, depending on aspect. Characterises periglacial environment by presence of continuous, discontinuous and sporadic permafrost, with three altitudinal zones; nivoperiglacial, cryonival and glacionival.
