| Abstract: | Sierra is in interior of Cordillera Betica, one of driest areas of Iberian Peninsula. In Alpujarrides unit, consisting largely of calcareous-dolomitc materials severely deformed by tectonic movement, are found unique landforms known as calares. Describes location, appearance and stratigraphy of stratified slope-wastes found on side of Calar del Lyon, and presents size distributions of coarse and fine components from several sites at various altitudes. Concludes most recent cold phases of Pleistocene saw climatic conditions for intense gelifraction in rocks of calares, with resulting clasts moved by slope processes associated with melt water and seasonal ice. |
