Record #177340:
The Quaternary glaciation of western New England with correlations to surrounding areas / John C. Ridge.
Title: | The Quaternary glaciation of western New England with correlations to surrounding areas / John C. Ridge. |
Author(s): | Ridge, John C. |
Date: | 2004. |
Publisher: | Amsterdam: Elsevier |
In: | Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part II North America. (2004.), |
Abstract: | Reviews Quaternary glacial history of New England, excluding Maine, and correlates and compares it with those of adjacent New Jersey, New York and Maine where relevant. Focuses on developments over last 20 years that have changed understanding and resolution of record. Discusses pre-Late Wisconsinan glaciation, which remains largely uncertain. Examines Late Wisconsinan glaciation, outlining recent advances in chronology based on varve sequences, ¹⁴C dating and palaeomagnetic records. Presents rates of deglaciation and time-distance plots of time spans of measured varve sections in Connecticut, Passumpsic and Merrimack valleys. Compares GISP2 ice-core oxygen isotope record with deglaciation history presented. Discusses post-glacial isostatic adjustment. |
