Record #177329:

Glaciations of the Sierra Nevada, California, USA / Alan R. Gillespie, Paul H. Zehfuss.

Title: Glaciations of the Sierra Nevada, California, USA / Alan R. Gillespie, Paul H. Zehfuss.
Author(s): Gillespie, Alan R.
Zehfuss, Paul H.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part II North America. (2004.),
Abstract: Notes glacial record on eastern side of range includes nine named Pleistocene glaciations or stadials, although lake sediment cores reveal more advances and retreats whose records have been overridden or eroded in mountains. Summarises Sierra Nevada's modern glaciation, climate and geology, and its role in development in glacial geologic theory. Lists recognised advances, grouped into Pliocene and Early Pleistocene , MIS 22-6, MIS-6, Late Pleistocene and Post-Tioga. Discusses climatic implications of, e.g., absence of significant advance from 13,100 to 3400 cal yr B.P., a period which includes Younger Dryas advances in Rocky Mountains and Cascades.
