Record #177325:

Chronology and extent of Late Cenozoic ice sheets in North America: a magnetostratigraphic assessment / Rene W. Barendregt.

Title: Chronology and extent of Late Cenozoic ice sheets in North America: a magnetostratigraphic assessment / Rene W. Barendregt.
Author(s): Barendregt, Rene W.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part II North America. (2004.),
Abstract: Reviews contribution of magnetostratigraphy to understanding of past terrestrial climatic events. Outlines how new data from Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska, obtained by dating of tills, palaeosols, loess, glacial gravel sequences, etc., have allowed refinement of ice sheet dimensions and timing in NW North America. Presents geomagnetic polarity time scale. Maps North American glaciations grouped by polarity zones and proposed maximum ice distributions during late Gauss, early and late Matuyama, and Brunhes polarity chrons. Lists palaeomagnetic data sites in region and illustrates proposed detailed distribution and timing of ice sheets in north-west North America.
