Abstract: | Uses regression analysis to model accumulation, ablation and equilibrium line altitude on six Norwegian glaciers (Ålfotbreen, Nigardsbreeen, Rembesdalsskåka, Storbreen, Hellstugubreen and Gråsubreen) by circulation indices and spring-summer temperature. Describes extension of temperature series by proxy data, glacial mass balance data and modelling method. Discusses results and climate-mass balance relationships revealed. Extends accumulation, ablation and ELA series back to 1781, 1813 and 1843, depending on availability of predictors. Compares with accumulation on western glaciers modelled using NAO index as only predictor. Analyses decadal variations, concluding abundant accumulation during early 1990s was unprecedented in entire series and ablation increased from mid-19th century to maximum in 1930s not yet exceeded. |
