Investigates conditions in avalanche accumulating zones resulting from rapid degradation of corrie glaciers, focusing on avalanche site in upper Baksan valley in Central Caucasus near to Mt. Elbrus. Discusses extremely large avalanche in snowy winter of 2001/02 thought to be largest in 300 years. |
