| Abstract: | Describes study of seasonal and inter-seasonal variations in radio wave velocity (RWV) at Hansbreen, which comprises cold upper and temperature lower layers. Study included repeated eadio echo sounding along transverse profile near equilibrium line, repeated common midpoint measurements at point on this profile, continuous radar measurements at one minute intervals over 8 days at fixed site, meteorological observations and continuous ice surface velocity monitoring. Reports seasonal and inter-seasonal changes in RWV of cold and temperate ice layers and in reflection power from their interface, from bedrock and internally from temperate ice layer. Interprets changes as water content variations in temperate ice and compares with air temperature and ice surface velocity changes. |
