| Abstract: | Reports observation of unusually large number of icebergs (more than 100) during sea ice research expedition on RV "Mikhail Somov" in May, 2003. Describes landings on tabular icebergs and investigations of density and salinity of upper ice layers, vertical temperature distribution, elements of non-glacial origin found on upper surfaces (pieces of sea ice, puddles of sea water and brine). Briefly describes study of iceberg calving and flow from tidewater Shokal'sky Glacier of Northern Island of Novaya Zemlya and presents size distribution of icebergs, bergy bits and growlers observed. |
