Record #177284:

A reply to the article "Permafrost in the Gruve-7 mine, Adventalen, Svalbard" by H. Christiansen, H. French and O. Humlum / S. Gruber.

Title: A reply to the article "Permafrost in the Gruve-7 mine, Adventalen, Svalbard" by H. Christiansen, H. French and O. Humlum / S. Gruber.
Author(s): Gruber, S.
Date: 2006.
In: Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift. (2006.), Vol. 60(2) (2006)
Abstract: Questions conclusions of cited paper about active layer thickness, permafrost-glacier relationships and 3-dimensional structure of permafrost. Claims thermal effect of ventilation air in mine appears to dominate measured temperatures and is not separated from desired undisturbed temperature field. Provides brief explanation based on simple model of propagation of temperature variations and reference to nearby Janssonhaugen borehole. Concludes natural temperature field is not discernible in data and no conclusion about natural state or characteristics of permafrost can be supported.
