Abstract: Presents study confirming kinetic isotope effect during ice crystal growth by measuring isotopic ratios of source vapour and artificial snow, produced under controlled supersaturation ratio. Describes experimental apparatus and conditions, artificial snow produced, sampling and analysis. Presents isotopic results. Discusses changes in deuterium excess, which indicate higher value for ice crystals at higher vapour supersaturation ratio. Discusses study limitations and implications for ice core analysis.
