| Abstract: | Reports archaeological investigations from 1979-81 by team from Arctic Centre of material remains left by whalers on Spitsbergen in seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Textile fragments recovered from whaling settlement of Smeerenburg, and cemetery on Zeeuwse Uitkijk facilitate reconstruction of workmen's and sailors' clothing, though it is not possible to reconstruct linen clothes, long overcoats and typical whalers' clothing.
