Application of two methods for determining diet of northern fur seals (Callorhinus ursinus) / Carolyn J. Gudmundson, Tonya K. Zeppelin, Rolf R. Ream.

Title: Application of two methods for determining diet of northern fur seals (Callorhinus ursinus) / Carolyn J. Gudmundson, Tonya K. Zeppelin, Rolf R. Ream.
Author(s): Gudmundson, Carolyn J.
Zeppelin, Tonya K.
Ream, Rolf R.
Date: 2006.
In: Fishery Bulletin. (2006.), Vol. 104(3) (2006)
Abstract: Discusses issues of bias in analysis of remains from scats (faeces) and spews from northern fur seals (Callorhinus ursinus). Demonstrates that scats are biased towards smaller prey remains, while spews are biased towards larger prey remains and cephalopod beaks. Underlines importance of multiple sampling methods for more accurate assessment of prey occurrence and prey age and size.
