In: Arctic Anthropology. (2006.), Vol. 40(1) (2006)
Abstract: Describes preliminary results of place-name project conducted in Sikusilarmiut land use area of south-west Baffin Island. Examines how Sikusilarmiut toponymy can inform broader scientific narratives about changing Arctic environments. Discusses ways in which place names reflect Inuit multi-sensory notions of place and provide insight into changing movements of peoples across land, sea and ice on seasonal basis and how this knowledge can be used to identify environmental indicators of climate change.
