Abstract: Account of author's upbringing among Antarctic memorabilia, and how his great-uncle, Edward Wilson, was selected for Scott's 1901-04 Discovery Antarctic expedition. Describes "dog scurvy" and human scurvy that impeded southern sledge journey of Scott, Shackleton and Wilson; and finding of crossed-out portions of Wilson's medical report giving more personal insights on journey. Explains how Frank Debenham founded Scott Polar Institute in Cambridge with funds raised after Scott's death on 1910-13 Terra Nova expedition, and current fund-raising efforts of Friends of Scott Polar Institute, of which David Wilson is chairman, including dog-sledding in Arctic.
