Record #176596:
Akaganéite as a corrosion product of natural, non-meteoritic iron from Qeqertarsuaq, west Greenland / Dan Holtstam.
Title: | Akaganéite as a corrosion product of natural, non-meteoritic iron from Qeqertarsuaq, west Greenland / Dan Holtstam. |
Author(s): | Holtstam, Dan. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | GFF. (2006.), Vol. 128(1) (2006) |
Abstract: | Identifies akaganéite as major corrosion product of some samples of native iron (kamacite + cohenite) from occurrence at Uiffaq on Qeqertarsuaq, by using X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Chlorine content is c. 6 wt.%, close to theoretical maximum value for this mineral. On other specimens from locality, corrosion crust consists dominantly of geothite, but no akaganéite. Variation in rust mineralogy is akin to that found for iron meteorites subjected to terrestrial weathering, and mainly related to environmental factors. |
