Record #176547:

Attempted predation of a child by a gray wolf, Canis lupus, near Ice Bay, Alaska / Mark E. McNay, Philip W. Mooney.

Title: Attempted predation of a child by a gray wolf, Canis lupus, near Ice Bay, Alaska / Mark E. McNay, Philip W. Mooney.
Author(s): McNay, Mark E.
Mooney, Philip W.
Date: 2005.
In: Canadian Field-Naturalist. (2005.), Vol. 119(2) (2005)
Abstract: Account of grey wolf (Canis lupus) attack on six-year-old boy on 26 April 2000, in logging camp near Ice Bay. Notes that wolf's behaviour during attack contained elements of predation. Suggests that wolf's habituation to people was significant factor contributing to attack, though low densities of ungulate prey and increased energetic demands associated with denning may also have influenced behaviour.
