| Abstract: | Evaluates possible health benefits of blubber of bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus), by assessing fatty acid constituents. Analyses samples from five blubber depths at each of six body locations. Finds that bowhead blubber contains relatively high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to be important in treatment or prevention of many diseases, including elevated blood pressure and cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression and some cancers. |
