The potential for using Little Diomede Island as a platform for observing environmental conditions in Bering Strait / Lee W. Cooper, Louis A. Codispoti, Vincent Kelly, Gay G. Sheffield, Jacqueline M. Grebmeier.
Title: | The potential for using Little Diomede Island as a platform for observing environmental conditions in Bering Strait / Lee W. Cooper, Louis A. Codispoti, Vincent Kelly, Gay G. Sheffield, Jacqueline M. Grebmeier. |
Author(s): | Cooper, Lee W. Codispoti, Louis A. Kelly, Vincent. Sheffield, Gay G. Grebmeier, Jacqueline M. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | Arctic. (2006.), Vol. 59(2) (2006) |
Abstract: | Demonstrates potential of shore-based laboratory to monitor water masses flowing predominantly northward past Little Diomede Island in centre of Bering Strait into Arctic Ocean. Surveys near-surface water salinity, inorganic nutrient concentrations, natural fluorescence associated with chlorophyll, and oxygen isotope concentration of seawater. Results indicate that effects of benthic recycling, human activity and seabird nesting on nutrient concentrations appear to be concentrated within 200 m of island. |
Notes: | Arctic. Vol. 59(2) :129-141 (2006). French abstract. |
