Record #176497:

Occurrence of the Mytilus edulis complex on Nordaustlandet, Svalbard: radiocarbon ages and climatic implications / Weston Blake, Jr.

Title: Occurrence of the Mytilus edulis complex on Nordaustlandet, Svalbard: radiocarbon ages and climatic implications / Weston Blake, Jr.
Author(s): Blake, Weston,
Date: 2006.
In: Polar Research. (2006.), Vol. 25(2) (2006)
Abstract: Discusses climatic implications of new radiocarbon age determinations, showing that blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) colonies were present in vicinity of Langgrunnodden and Kinnvika, Svalbard, for much of first half of Holocene time. Drastic warming in early Holocene, which resulted in rapid melt-off from glaciers and ice-caps in Svalbard, also facilitated establishment and perseverance of Mytilus colonies at high latitude.
