Soil-driven timberline of spruce (Picea abies) in Tanaelv Belt-Lapland Granulite transition, Finland / Raimo Sutinen, Eija Hyvönen, Andreea Ruther, Andreas Ahl, Marja-Liisa Sutinen.

Title: Soil-driven timberline of spruce (Picea abies) in Tanaelv Belt-Lapland Granulite transition, Finland / Raimo Sutinen, Eija Hyvönen, Andreea Ruther, Andreas Ahl, Marja-Liisa Sutinen.

In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2005.), Vol. 37(4) (2005)
Abstract: Examines soil-water and soil-nutrient regimes across spruce timberline in Finnish Lapland, using terrestrial electromagnetic measurements (including soil dielectric permittivity, gamma radiation and electrical conductivity). Finds that soil-moisture and solute content are significantly higher in glacial tills of Norway spruce stands compared with stands formed by Scots pine. Stands dominated by spruce are associated with mesic-wet and nutrient rich tills derived from mafic amphibole and hornblende gneisses of Tanaelv Belt.
