Abstract: Reports first estimates of local survival for juvenile marbled murrelets (Brachyramphus marmoratus), alcid species of concern in Pacific Northwest. Estimates survival of 34 radio-tagged individuals to be 0.8621 during 80 day period post-fledging and extrapolates over year, under assumption of constant survival, to produce annual survival rate of 0.51. Extrapolated survival rate is lower than values previously used in demographic models for this species, but is first data-based evaluation of juvenile survival.
