| Abstract: | Examines populations of colonial breeding seabirds in Alaska, comparing population data from eastern Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska, using U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service data from Beringian Seabird Colony Database. Finds auklet (Aethia pusilla and Aethia cristatella) colonies to be restricted to volcanic islands near productive upwelling areas in central and western Aleutian Islands, shelf-break in central Bering Sea and Anadyr Stream. Also finds common murre (Uria aalge) numbers to be evenly split between two regions under comparison. |
