Abstract: Evaluates spatial trends and environmental controls of soil carbon reservoirs and mineralization rates during growing season of four characteristic vegetation types found within Arctic valley in north-east Greenland where all plant communities were subject to similar above-ground climatic conditions. Quantifies importance of soil horizons in terms of storing organic carbon and releasing CO₂ produced by organic matter mineralization. Discusses effects of climate change on vegetation patterns and corresponding CO₂ soil dynamics.
