Record #176301:

Positive and negative plant-plant interaction in two contrasting Arctic-alpine plant communities / Johan Olofsson.

Title: Positive and negative plant-plant interaction in two contrasting Arctic-alpine plant communities / Johan Olofsson.
Author(s): Olofsson, Johan.
Date: 2004.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2004.), Vol. 36(4) (2004)
Abstract: Investigates relative effect of facilitation and resource competition by surrounding dwarf shrubs on Carex bigelowii in two contrasting Arctic-alpine tundra heathlands. Results show that positive association between plants in exposed site are caused by positive interactions between plants, as presence of dwarf shrub canopy facilitates growth of C. bigelowii. Competition, however, is also feature of plant-plant relationship and should also be considered in any account of interactions in Arctic plant communities.
