Abstract: Discusses debate surrounding authenticity of Vinland Map, including critique of 1965 work, The Vinland Map and the Tartar relation, scrutiny of marketing strategies used in 1957 (when Vinland Map surfaced on antiquarian market), coverage of many aspects of map that indicate that work is modern fake (literary evidence and scientific analyses performed between 1967 and 2002), explanation of riddles, and evidence for mapmaker and source of parchment used. Also applies current knowledge of medieval Norse culture and exploration to counter widespread misinformation about Norse voyages.
