Abstract: Discusses current state of Yupik language instruction following loss of supporters and teachers after programme in Gambell schools had been running for over 25 years. Also describes recent language and publication project to translate into English and transcribe into Yupik old Siberian Yupik folk-stories originally recorded and published in Russian Cyrillic-based Yupik orthography, for use in classroom.
