Fish school selection by marbled murrelets in Prince William Sound, Alaska: responses to changes in availability / William D. Ostrand, Shay Howlin, Tracey A. Gotthardt.

Title: Fish school selection by marbled murrelets in Prince William Sound, Alaska: responses to changes in availability / William D. Ostrand, Shay Howlin, Tracey A. Gotthardt.

Date: 2004.
In: Marine Ornithology. (2004.), Vol. 32(1) (2004)
Abstract: Examines how fish school selection by marbled murrelets (Brachyramphus marmoratus) changes as availability of forage fish fluctuated over time within Prince William Sound, from hydroacoustic and bird-location data collected simultaneously while travelling systematically arranged transects during summers of 1997, 1998 and 1999. Findings suggest that murrelets respond to changes in availability of food by making choices that maximise energy intake, as predicted by foraging theory.
