Abstract: Provides argument for drawing on social constructionism to improve understanding of people's perceptions of optimum land-use and arbitration in cases concerning land-use conflicts, using case-study of proposed hydroelectric development on Indigenous site with spiritual significance to residents of Canadian North. Argues that social constructions regarding use of land have influenced stakeholders' perspectives.
