Record #176180:

Caribou recovery and coexistence with introduced feral reindeer on the Nuussuaq Peninsula (70-71°N), West Greenland / Christine Cuyler.

Title: Caribou recovery and coexistence with introduced feral reindeer on the Nuussuaq Peninsula (70-71°N), West Greenland / Christine Cuyler.
Author(s): Cuyler, Christine.
Date: 2005.
In: Rangifer. (2005.), Special issue No. 16 (2005)
Abstract: Examines current status of caribou population on Nuussuaq Peninsula, using winter ground survey for minimum count, recruitment and distribution, carried out in April 2002 by local hunters. Finds feral reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) to have established successful population, while native caribou (Rangifer tarandus groenlandicus) had recovered to number several hundred. Survey suggests spatial segregation of two subspecies, given observed and unexpected dissimilar behaviour, phenotype and spatial distribution.
