Record #176173:

Conservation of Peary caribou based on a recalculation of the 1961 aerial survey on the Queen Elizabeth Islands, Arctic Canada / Frank L. Miller, Samuel J. Barry, Wendy A. Calvert.

Title: Conservation of Peary caribou based on a recalculation of the 1961 aerial survey on the Queen Elizabeth Islands, Arctic Canada / Frank L. Miller, Samuel J. Barry, Wendy A. Calvert.
Author(s): Miller, Frank L.
Barry, Samuel J.
Calvert, Wendy A.
Date: 2005.
In: Rangifer. (2005.), Special Issue No. 16 (2005)
Abstract: Re-examines raw data of 1961 survey of Peary caribou by grouping the Queen Elizabeth Islands into five island-complexes (eco-units) and calculating, for each unit, estimated number of caribou and standard error, and 95% confidence interval of estimate, using "bootstrap" technique with 100,000 replications. Finds substantial differences in density between five eco-units and notes that 1961 findings, with subsequent re-examination, are crucial to evaluation of trends for number of Peary caribou on Queen Elizabeth Islands and relative importance of individual eco-units.
