Morfodinámica de laderas en las Islas Shetland del Sur (Antártida Maritíma) / E. Serrano, J. Giner, P. Gumiel, J. López-Martínez.

Title: Morfodinámica de laderas en las Islas Shetland del Sur (Antártida Maritíma) / E. Serrano, J. Giner, P. Gumiel, J. López-Martínez.
Translated title: Slope morphodynamics in the South Shetland Islands (maritime Antarctica).
Author(s): Serrano, E.

Gumiel, P.
López-Martínez, J.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: Valladolid, Spain: Universidad de Valladolid. Departamento de Geografía
Language: Spanish.
In: Periglaciarismo en montaña y altas latitudes. (2002.),
Abstract: Presents 13 geomorphological maps. Identifies eight basic processes involved in sediment transfer from crests to beaches and platforms (frost shattering, rock fall, gravitational movement, protalus lobes, nivation, gelifluction, debris flow, mud flow, cryoturbation and surface slides) organised into proximal, medial and distal zones. From these, defines 7-member slope morphodynamic typology, with some members characteristic of cold mountain environments, and others of oceanic cold Antarctic environments, all linked to continuous permafrost and high summer water availability. Defines basic systems of maritime Antarctic periglacial environments: gelifluidal debris system; debris system with gravitational debris and distal differential flow; gravitational debris system with distal flow; and glacial debris system with distal flow.
