Report of the glaciological survey 2004 / Ernesto Armando, Carlo Baroni, Mirco Meneghel, eds.
Title: | Report of the glaciological survey 2004 / Ernesto Armando, Carlo Baroni, Mirco Meneghel, eds. |
Author(s): | Armando, Ernesto, Baroni, Carlo, Meneghel, Mirco, |
Date: | 2005. |
Language: | English and Italian. |
In: | Geografia Fisica e Dinamica Quaternaria. (2005.), Vol. 28(2) (2005) |
Abstract: | Details 2004 survey of Italian glaciers. Summarises observations for each of three sectors: Piemonte-Val D'Aosta, Lombardia and Tre Venezie, indicating advance/retreat, mass balance, presence of residual snow, etc. Overall, some 85% of glaciers were retreating, and 8.5% advancing (slightly more than previous year). Over 80% of glaciers were retreating in each sector. Snout elevations have increased by around 80 m since 1990. Presents detailed analysis of meteorological conditions in Italian Alps during hydrological year 2003-2004. Lists key observations (snout elevation, fluctuation, etc.) for over 100 glaciers in turn, and provides brief descriptions (in Italian) and photographs of many. |
