Record #176130:

Activities on preservation and restoration of Kungur Ice Cave glaciation in 2004-2005 / P.N. Sivinskikh.

Title: Activities on preservation and restoration of Kungur Ice Cave glaciation in 2004-2005 / P.N. Sivinskikh.
Author(s): Sivinskikh, P. N.
Date: 2005.
Publisher: Moscow: Institut Geografii RAN
In: Glacier caves and glacial karst in high mountains and Polar regions = Lednikovyye peshchery i lednikovyy karst vysokogornykh i polyarnykh rayonov. (2005.),
Abstract: Reviews studies of Kungur Ice Cave and presents distribution map of ice types (stalagmites, stalactites, icings, sublimation crystals, lake ice and firn snow). Describes history since opening as show cave, with new entrance tunnel and many visitors affecting cave conditions. Notes work to restore cave glaciation in mid-1960s and return to negative mass balance by 1985. Describes work and results of current restorative campaign, which includes freeing-up of warm air access to promote sublimation crystal growth, organising winter cave ventilation and construction of a sluice system in input and output tunnels.
