Caves glaciation of Sarama region (Russia) / O.Ya. Chervyatsova.
Title: | Caves glaciation of Sarama region (Russia) / O.Ya. Chervyatsova. |
Author(s): | Chervyatsova, O. Ya. Chervyatcova, O. Ya. |
Date: | 2005. |
Publisher: | Moscow: Institut Geografii RAN |
In: | Glacier caves and glacial karst in high mountains and Polar regions = Lednikovyye peshchery i lednikovyy karst vysokogornykh i polyarnykh rayonov. (2005.), |
Abstract: | Reports perennial ice is observed in 7% of caves of Samara region, and seasonal ice in 60%. Discusses conditions of cold accumulation and describes glaciation in Brothers Greve, Gnilaya and Manumba natural caves and in Sokskiye adits, a group of man-made caves in Samara city. Applies cave glaciation index, relating climatic factors and cave morphology to degree of glaciation. Presents annual glaciation maps for Gnilaya cave from 2000-2004. Identifies critical requirements for perennial negative temperature anomaly in caves as active air exchange with surface and morphology allowing ice to form at altitude below cave entrance level. Warns that cave works that alter conditions may cause melting of perennial ice and ceiling collapse. |
Notes: | In: Glacier caves and glacial karst in high mountains and Polar regions = Lednikovyye peshchery i lednikovyy karst vysokogornykh i polyarnykh rayonov / B.R. Mavlyudov, ed. Russian abstract. |
