Record #176096:

The return of the "Vikings": the Canadian-Danish dispute over Hans Island - new challenges for the control of the Canadian North / Rob Huebert.

Title: The return of the "Vikings": the Canadian-Danish dispute over Hans Island - new challenges for the control of the Canadian North / Rob Huebert.
Author(s): Huebert, Rob.
Date: 2005.
Publisher: Calgary, Alta: University of Calgary Press
In: Breaking ice : renewable resource and ocean management in the Canadian North. (2005.),
Abstract: Presents historical account of dispute between Denmark and Canada over Hans Island and possible significance of disputed boundary (presence of important fish stocks in surrounding waters, possible illegal hunting activities by Greenland Inuit crossing to Ellesmere Island, and potential for exploiting oil reserves in event of global warming). Suggests that, contrary to many other instances where Canadian government has utilised principles of integrated management, response to international challenges has been primarily reactive and minimalist.
