In: Canadian Antarctic Research Network. Newsletter. (2006.), Vol. 21 (2006)
Abstract: Describes various case studies of bioremediation, including treatment of 1997 diesel spillage at Alfred Faure station on Crozet Island; and 2000-01 in-situ field experiment at Grande Terre, Iles Kerguelen. Though bioremediaiton appears feasible and can be accelerated by heating or amending soil, residual toxicity remained very high. Biopile experiments showed that land-farming combined with amendment of soils, warm ventilation and addition of fertilizer, accelerated bioremediation of diesel-contaminated soils.
