Title: | Two Scottish snow patches survive until winter 2005/06 / Adam Watson, David Duncan, John Pottie. |
Author(s): | Watson, Adam. Duncan, David. Pottie, John. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | Weather. (2006.), Vol. 61(5) (2006) |
Abstract: | Ninth annual summary of snow patches surviving through UK summer into following winter. Reports that, following mild winter, less snow than usual lay in early summer and only two patches survived (in Garbh Coire Mor) until lasting new snow in November 2005. Describes snow patch surveys through summer. Summarizes year's snowfalls in Cairngorm, Ben Nevis and other areas of Scottish Highlands. Sufficient snow fell in mid-late February to save Glenshee Ski Centre for another year following recent management buyout. Compares last 10 years with previous 25, noting average number of surviving snow patches fell from 10.7 to 3.8, and their average length decreased from 252 m to 71 m. |
