Abstract: | Winter of 2003-2004 was warm, with considerable precipitation not retained by highland glaciers, and combined with warm summer led to all glaciers experiencing negative mass balance. Glacier variations were measured at 46 locations, 41 showing retreat. Four snouts advanced, one due to surging, and one was stationary. Includes area, winter, summer and net mass balances and ELA for Hofsjökull over period 1987-2004. Cumulative net balance was -8.73 m. |
