Record #176026:

Thinning response and growth trends of seeded Scots pine stands at the Arctic timberline / Martti Varmola, Hannu Salminen, Mauri Timonen.

Title: Thinning response and growth trends of seeded Scots pine stands at the Arctic timberline / Martti Varmola, Hannu Salminen, Mauri Timonen.
Author(s): Varmola, Martti.
Salminen, Hannu.
Timonen, Mauri.
Date: 2004.
In: Silva Fennica. (2004.), Vol. 38(1) (2004)
Abstract: Studies growth patterns and reactions of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) to thinning in extremely harsh climatic conditions in two seeded stands located on Arctic timberline. Finds that seeded stands on Arctic timberline grow surprisingly well in favourable conditions, reaching dominant height of 12-14 m in 100 years. Recommends spacing of approximately 1,000 stems ha⁻¹, based on increment figures and thinning reactions.
