Abstract: Examines dynamic mechanisms of regime behaviour and decadal climate variability of atmosphere in absence of time-varying external forcing factors, using quasi-geostrophic three-level model of wintertime atmospheric circulation over northern hemisphere. Applies novel, automated, iterative procedure to fine-tune model for thermal forcing, involving test-run, comparison of results with data for winter months and forcing correction based on comparison. Following convergence of procedure, model matches reanalysis data almost perfectly, in terms of zonal mean climate state and time-mean non-zonal extratropical diabatic heating.
