Record #175988:

Survival of developed intraglacial water channels in cold and temperate glaciers / E. Isenko, B. Mavyludov, R. Naruse.

Title: Survival of developed intraglacial water channels in cold and temperate glaciers / E. Isenko, B. Mavyludov, R. Naruse.
Author(s): Isenko, E.
Mavyludov, B.
Naruse, R.
Date: 2005.
Publisher: Moscow: Institut Geografii RAN
In: Glacier caves and glacial karst in high mountains and Polar regions = Lednikovyye peshchery i lednikovyy karst vysokogornykh i polyarnykh rayonov. (2005.),
Abstract: Presents numerical model of evolution of intraglacial water channel assuming cylindrical geometry. Notes field observations show typical channel consists of near-vertical upstream part (moulin/shaft) and sub-horizontal channel deep in ice. Simulation shows such channels tend to equilibrium size. Describes multi-year experiments with winter scenario in which melt water is absent that show ice depth is more critical than ice temperature to channel's survival into next melt season.
